NordLayer supports the IKEv2 protocol depending on the context:
- NordLayer supports IKEv2 for site-to-site configurations. This ensures secure and efficient connections between different gateways and sites.
- However, starting June 1st, 2024, NordLayer apps no longer offer the IPSec/IKEv2 protocol. Manual setup for IKEv2/IPSec connections remains available if needed.
The decision to sunset IKEv2 focuses on providing the most secure and adaptable VPN options. While IKEv2/IPSec offers a strong foundation, it can be vulnerable to data leaks in certain scenarios on macOS and iOS. Newer protocols, such as NordLynx, offer greater flexibility for future improvements.
We recommend enabling automatic updates for your NordLayer app to receive the latest security enhancements.
