# NordLayer Browser routing policies

Routing policies allow administrators to manage how NordLayer Browser traffic flows across the organization. By creating or modifying policies, administrators can control traffic based on specific teams, destination IPs, or domains. These rules determine whether traffic is securely tunneled through a team gateway or routed directly to the internet.

## How to set up NordLayer Browser routing policies?

Before getting started, you'll need to enable NordLayer Browser under the Platform Solutions tab as a prerequisite.

1. Click the **NordLayer Browser** tab and select **Add new policy**.

1. In the window that opens, you'll need to:
  1. Enter a routing policy name
  2. Select which teams the policy applies to (you may select multiple teams)
  3. Define the destination IPs and domains for traffic routing (wildcards (*) are supported for flexible URL pattern matching)
  4. Choose how to route this traffic - either through your organization gateway or directly to the internet
2. When you're finished configuring the policy, click **Create policy** to save your changes.

Please note that to activate these policies, you are required to select **Apply changes**. This action will push your new rules live, prioritizing them based on their order.

Please note

- Routing policies that direct traffic through a gateway will only display gateways available to NordLayer Browser. If a gateway is marked as browser-only, it is restricted exclusively to NordLayer Browser and will not appear in the NordLayer desktop or mobile applications. This allows administrators to create dedicated gateways for browser-based traffic without affecting other NordLayer clients.
- While the browser functionality operates independently once activated, accessing Browser Extension features requires appropriate licensing. The system automatically verifies extension permissions before granting access to gateway configurations.

NordLayer Browser continues to evolve based on user feedback and organizational needs. Some functionality may change as the feature develops.
