# Operating systems

## NordLayer is currently compatible with these operating systems:

- [Windows 10 and 11](/docs/installing-on-windows)
- [macOS 13 (Ventura) and up](/docs/installing-on-macos)
- Android 13 and up
- iOS 16.0 and up
- [Linux (Debian and RHEL based systems) - on physical client machines running Debian 11, Debian 12, Fedora 40, Fedora 41, Ubuntu 20.04, Ubuntu 22.04, Ubuntu 24.04, and OpenSUSE Tumbleweed](https://help.nordlayer.com/docs/installing-on-linux).

**Note**: NordLayer applications are not officially supported on Windows Server and Linux Server operating systems as well as on ARM-architecture-based devices (only NordLynx protocol will be available).

In order to ensure the highest level of security and stability of our application, we are seeking to minimize the risk of vulnerabilities and security breaches by running on the most secure and officially supported systems. That’s why we will be no longer supporting versions that have been identified as outdated by the operating system vendors themselves.

## Not supported operating system?

If you have a Virtual Private Gateway set up, you can use our official [Browser Extension](/docs/setting-up-browser-extension). The extension can be added on Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft Edge.

**Note**: In case you have any questions or are experiencing any issues, please feel free to contact our [24/7 customer support team](/docs/how-do-i-contact-nordlayer-customer-support).

A Virtual Private Gateway is Core and Premium Plans feature that creates a secure VPN connection across the internet, so you can connect your private business cloud, on-premises network and implement additional security features from the SSE framework.
