When the automatic synchronization of user profiles between NordLayer and Okta SCIM is delayed or fails, administrators can use Okta's Force Sync feature to manually trigger a sync. This ensures that all recent changes to user accounts and permissions are reflected in NordLayer.
Steps to force sync NordLayer via Okta
- Log in the Okta Admin Console, navigate to your NordLayer application and select the Provisioning tab.
- Depending on the data flow you wish to trigger, choose one of the following:
- To App: Sync user data from Okta to NordLayer (most commonly used for provisioning updates).
- To Okta: Sync data from NordLayer to Okta (e.g., to retrieve updates from NordLayer back to Okta).
- Scroll to the bottom of the selected section (To App or To Okta) and click on the Force Sync button.
- A brief notification will confirm that the sync process has started. Syncing may take some time based on the number of assigned users.
Troubleshooting force sync issues
If the Force Sync does not result in the expected updates in NordLayer, follow these steps:
Verify AppUser profile updates in assignments
- Navigate to the Assignments tab in the NordLayer application in Okta.
- Check if the user attributes (AppUser profile) are correct.
- If attributes are incorrect, review mappings under the Provisioning > Attribute Mappings section.
Review attribute mappings
- Navigate to Provisioning > Mappings > [Edit Mappings].
- Preview the mapping results for a sample user to verify that the expected attributes (e.g.,
- email, username) are being populated correctly.
- Update or refine expressions in the mapping configuration as needed.
Note
If the attribute mappings are misconfigured, this can prevent the user changes from syncing successfully to NordLayer. Correct the configuration and retry the force sync.
